Artist Inae Kim

Inae kim was born in South Korea where she attended university obtaining both a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Certificate of Fine Arts Teaching degree. Inae majored in graphic design and began her working career in her native country as an art teacher and a commercial artist in the field of advertising. In 1996 inae, with her family, made the decision to move to Canada and permanently settled in Halifax, in the province of Nova Scotia.

While taking up a new life in a new country can be challenging she has found the varied cultural experience rewarding and in the process feels it has helped foster personal growth and expand her understanding as an artist. Light, colour, shape, and imagery are key elements in Inae’s approach to painting. The diversity of Nova Scotia and fauna provide special inspiration in the regard as does the historical architecture of Halifax and the province.

She is an active member of the “Contemporary Art Society” and has received commissions for her work from clients in Halifax and as far away as Toronto and England.

She received Louisa Letson Award at 2009 Contemporary Art Society Juried Show and one of her painting was selected 2009 Nova Scotia Art purchased for Art Bank Collection. In 2010, she received on Honorable Mention for the “Open Category” and “Land/Seascapes” of the Contemporary Art Society Juried Show. In 2011, she is an elected member of the prestigious Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC). She received two awards in 2011 at the 86th annual Open, Juried, and International Water Colour Media Exhibition hosted by the CSPWC in Toronto. The awards were, Wittnaver International Watch Award and The S. J. Sloan Award.

Inae’s painting currently shows at Teichert Gallery in Nova Scotia Art Gallery and The Wired Monk Coffee Shop on 5147 Morris Street in Halifax.

She currently lives in the Clayton Park area of the city.
